"...and surprises."

It’s the first day of December y’all!!

Cyber Monday is just behind us and delivery is already a mess. So, you know what that means…if you haven’t already sent your letters to Santa, you probably want to go ahead and do that!

I remember having fun writing my letters. I would spend days dreaming of the presents I wanted. Then I would spend hours to find the perfect clip art to make it stand out, and I tried to find new and creative ways to tell him how good of a boy I had been that past year (some years, I may have had to be a little more creative than others.) After I wrote out my laundry list, I would always end it with, “and surprises.”

I almost always got what I asked for (except that time I asked for a hand buzzer prank toy…I guess it got lost), but it was always the surprises that made Christmas special. You see, Santa knew me better than I knew myself. He knew what I actually needed, and he knew about things that I never would have thought of.

Isn’t that like our prayer life. We get caught up in our wants, our expectations, our fears, our own personal bubble, and all we ask for is what we know, what we want, and what we think is best. When the surprises come along, we are so tied up in ourselves, that we don’t always see them, or worse yet, we see them as a distraction from what we think life should be.

We have a sovereign God, who knows more and is far more powerful than we could ever imagine. Are we basking in His glory, or are we trying to fulfill ours? If we trust in Him and His surprises, we will have more than we could ever ask or think.

Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who by the power that is working within us

is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think,

to him be the glory in the church

and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.

Amen.

Random thoughts. Technology updates and philosophies. Worship and church leadership reflections. Gluten-Free/Vegetarian/Keto recipes.

Nothing is off limits.

Ultimately, I'm here to help as we journey this life together.
